Every day he just seems to come online to the dev forums and say "I didn't do much today, but I will tomorrow ", and then just lather, rinse repeat everyday.

Like everyone else said he has a life outside of this. You should be thankful he's even making it in the first place.

He said this weekend after he posts the orchestration contest results he'll be doing the rest of the demo work. Then after a week of testing the devmo should be the release, so, a couple weeks max.

I certainly don't think that, and I know he has a life, but it's been two fucking years you think that he would at least have half of the game done by now. I'm not being impatient, rather, I'm wondering what is taking him so long, or if he's even going to finish it at all.

He isn't even halfway done because he is one guy doing all the programming. The characters don't take long; it's the engine that takes time. Coding a smash clone engine from scratch is not the same as making a short side-scroller.
